iPhone 3G

iPhone買いました。発売日の翌週ですが特に並ばず普通の携帯ショップで購入。白の16GBですが不人気なのでしょうか。複数の店舗で普通に売ってました。

で、その操作性と機能ですが、まずタッチパネルの軽快さに驚きです。ここまで軽快に動いてくれると操作している方も楽しいです。ただ、iPodとして使いながらブラウザーを開いたりすると頻繁に落ちます。私の友人の8GBモデルは普通に操作してても落ちてるのでそれに比べるとまだ良いかも。GPS連動のGoogle Mapも使い勝手が良いですし、Gmailなどの設定は最初から組み込まれており便利です。ネットで皆さんが困っている住所録の移行ですが、私の場合は前機種がNokia E61でPCとの接続ソフトであるNokia PC Suiteがあるので簡単に出来ました。

1. E61の住所録をNokia PC Suiteで開き、ドラッグして任意の場所に保存。勝手にV-card形式で保存されます。
2. これらをMacへコピーしてMacアドレス帳に保存。フリーメールに添付して送付してMacで開きました。
3. iTunesを開いて、アドレス帳を同期するにチェック。

ちなみに、iPhone購入時にソフトバンクから提供される"携帯メモタツ"では私の場合は移行は出来なかったです。

不満な点は、赤外線が無い。コピペが出来ない。Bluetoothでファイル送信不可。まぁ、これらは大した事無いのですが、MacOS Xのアップデートが必要だったことが予想外の出費。購入時にソフトバンクの店員さんに確認したんですが、MacOSのバージョンには依存せず、iTunesを最新のものにしてくれればOKとの事で、早速私のPowerBookG4 MacOS X 10.2に繋いだところ、Mac OS X 10.4.1以降が必要だというメッセージが･･･。前にもソフトバンクの店員にはパケット通信の件でやられた事がありましたが今回も同様です。頼むよ孫さん。

Tab Effect for Firefox

私が使ってるブラウザーはFirefoxかSafariですが、Firefox用でこんなアドオンがあるのを見つけました。Macのユーザー切り替えの動きと同じですね。

Modbook - Tablet Mac

ここ数年、家で音楽を聴くときはいつもマックとiTunesの組合せで聴いてます。しかし、パソコン用の机と椅子は音楽を聴くには味気が無いですし、やっぱりソファーなどに座って聴きたい。私のPowerBookG4にはアップル・リモートが付いてませんので、リモコン操作は不可能。買い換えるにしても、次はMacProが欲しいのですが、これもリモコン無し。タブレット型のMacとかあればいいのにな～とググったところ発見しました。『Modbook』です。ベースをMacBookとしてAxiotronという会社が改造して制作しているようです。ネットによるとアップル社の正式パートナーという事。コンピュータとしての機能は完全にMacBookと一緒で、しかもGPS内蔵。あるところにはあるものですね。

I often listen music with my PowerBook G4 in my house, it's comfortable because no need to change music disks, and easy to find music what I want to listen, but for serching music files and or control iTunes, I should be in front of the PowerBook because Apple remote is unavailable. Also I want to listen music in laying on a sofa. In the future, I want to have MacPro but either no Apple remote is available. I googled to find Tablet Mac and found it. Tablet Mac "Modbook" made by Axiotron is modified from MacBook, this is why, performance and connectivity are exactly same as MacBook.

AirMac Express

AirMac Expressです。インドネシアのジャカルタで買ったのですが、どうも米国からの輸入品のようでした。なので、名前も日本と異なりパッケージには AirPort Expressと書いていました。で、買った理由なのですが、住んでいたところにLANはありましたが、インターネットをする為にはいちいちパワーブックの前に行かなければならなかった事。これじゃ、ノート使っている意味無いです。加えてNOKIAのE61を使用してますが、E61は大画面で普通のウェブサイトもほぼ問題なくブラウジング出来るので、E61のWi-Fi機能を活用したかったのです。

セットアップは超簡単です。電源ポートに差し込みLANケーブルを接続。付属のユーティリティーソフトをインストールして立上げ、あとは画面の指示に従うだけ。あんまり簡単なんで拍子抜けです。

やっぱり、無線LANは良いです。電波が届く限りどこでもインターネットができます。E61も快調。改めてE61の使い勝手の良さに気付きました。また、JBLのDuetをAirMac Expressに接続しています。iTunes経由で音楽を聴いていますが音質も問題なし。PowerBookの置き場所に関わらず、スピーカーを置けるのは便利ですね。デジタルケーブルで繋いで、AIFFで読み込むと更に音が良くなりそうです。

This is Airport Express, Apple made small network base station. Airport express is called “AirMac Express” in Japan by the way. Anyway I bought it in Jakarta, Indo to make a home wireless network in a hostel room in Indonesia because I’m using my PowerBook G4 at both a living room and bed room, I don’t want to fix a location of the PowerBook G4, more I like to use Nokia E61 Wi-Fi function under wireless network environment.

Set-up for Airport Express is unbelievably easy, just plug Airport Express into a socket, and connect a LAN cable, then install utility software to a computer and boot the program. I spent about 10 minutes for the installation.

I won’t be back to a wire connection environment. I can use the Internet at anywhere in my hostel room as far as the wave is reachable. I’m using speakers “JBL Duet” with Airport Express by iTunes. Good sound quality and no need to think about a location of PowerBook. I suppose it can be better sounds if using a digital cable with AIFF music files.

MacBook Air

世界最薄ノートブックコンピューター、MacBook Airが出ました。すごい薄さですね。現在パワーブックG4 15インチを使用しており、持ち運びるものの気軽には持ち運べない重さから、新機種登場を心待ちにしていましたが、このMacBook Airのディスプレイは13.3インチで十分。（個人的には12インチで良かったですが）重さは1.36kg。厚さは4mm～19.4mm。まさに気軽に持ち運べる感じに仕上がっています。厚さだけでいうと、東芝のPortage R500なども同じくらい薄いですが、やっぱりPCとは一線を画すこのデザインが秀逸です。この薄さゆえか否か、いくつかの重要な機能が簡略化されています。Firewire ポートと光学ドライブが、またLANポートもありません。しかし、ワイヤレス接続として802.11n Wi-Fi および Bluetooth 2.1 + EDRは標準で内蔵されている事、同時期にタイムカプセルという、無線LAN経由でバックアップをするストレージが発売されていることから、製品コンセプトはワイヤレスという事かもしれません。しかし、この薄さ、軽さ、デザインは僕の購買意欲を掻き立てるには十分です。Intel Core 2 Duo 1.6GHz、2GBメモリ、80GB HDD(4200 rpm) の標準モデルが229,800円。コスト競争力も結構あるこのモデルを手にするべきか結構迷っています。

MacBook Air debuts, the "world's thinnest notebook" at 0.76 inches (1.93 cm) thick at its thickest point and 0.16 inches (0.4 cm) at its thinnest. Unbelievably thin! it’s easy to carry. I have been waiting for a new lightweight notebook model from Apple, I have PowerBook G4 15” model, but I wouldn’t bring out because of its weight. The Air’s weight is only 1.36 kg (3.0 lbs.). It’s easy to bring out. Just from thickness point of view, Toshiba Portage R500 has also similar thickness for example, the R500 however doesn’t have a unique design like the MacBook Air. The Air doesn’t have Firewire / LAN connections, and Superdrive. I just suppose that the Air has 802.11n Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 2.1 + EDR, and also Apple will release Time Capsule which is a network storage with wireless network base station, this is why, the Air’s design concept is wireless. The Air standard model is priced at JPY 229,800 (USD 2,160) with Intel Core2 Duo 1.6GHz, 2GB memories, 80GB HDD (4,200 rpm). The price is not so high, I’m being puzzled if I buy it or not.

ノキア E61 / Nokia E61

Nokia E61です。ソフトバンクのシムカードを刺して使用しています。 なかなかの使い勝手で、大きいと感じるボディーも薄さのせいか持っていても苦になりません。ネットメール、ネットブラウジングは勿論、無線LAN、赤外線、Bluetoothによる通信を装備。オフィス書類の添付ファイルなども開け、機能は非常に充実しています。欠点はSoftbankのS!メール（MMS）が使えないこと。正確に言うと機能制限で使えますが、表示できる文字数は限られており、また送信・返信は出来ません。なお、SMSは使えます。プッシュメールの使用も可能のようですが、導入していません。あとはカメラが付いていない事くらいです。もちろん、海外でもSIMを差し替えればいつもの携帯として使用でき、Softbankならばなんら設定変更する事無く、そのまま使用可能です。ちなみにメールはGmailをブラウザとGmailのシンビアン用アプリケーションをS!メールの代替として使用しています。

よく日本の携帯市場は閉鎖的と言いますが、海外でしばらく携帯を使うとその事が良く実感できます。例えば、インドネシアに行った際に痛感したのはスマートフォンの種類の多さです。消費者は沢山ある種類のスマートフォンの価格と機能を比べて購入出来るのです。その一番の要因はシムフリーであるという事でしょう。携帯本体と通信の為に必要なシムカードは別々に購入します。なので、消費者は携帯のキャリアに縛られず、自由に電話機本体を購入出来るのです。

これはインドネシアに限った話ではありません。外国人が『日本と韓国は携帯のシステムが独自だよね。』と言うのをよく耳にします。よく言えば日本の携帯機能は諸外国の先を行き、悪く言えば諸外国との互換性を無視し先に行き過ぎていると思います。ソフトバンクはVodafone時代からシムカードを使用していますが、Vodafoneは元々海外の携帯キャリアなので当然です。一方、日本でスマートフォンと言ったら、Softbankから数機種、Nokia E61と、PHSでWillcom位であり、海外のスマートフォン市場と比べる術もありません。競争も無く、その為スマートフォン市場も活性化していません。

話が飛びましたが、E61をSoftbankのシムカードで使用しているは、パケット通信使用時に気をつけてください。便利なんでついつい使いすぎると所謂『パケ死』状態になる可能性大です。なお、Softbankの割引サービス（パケットし放題など）は一切適用されません。

実際の話ですが、東京駅付近の某Softbankショップへ赴き、Nokia E61を見せて『携帯本体はNokiaショップから購入し、Softbankのシムカードのみを使用してますが、パケットし放題は適用できますか？』の問いに、本社へ確認中のため追って連絡します。と言われ3ヶ月返事無し。再度、青森県の某Softbankショップへ行き、同じ質問をしたところ、『PCサイトダイレクトならOKです』と言われ、早速契約。ところが、過日請求内訳を見たところ、35,000円のパケット使用料に呆然。慌ててSoftbankに電話したところ『アクセスポイントを変更できる機種には適用されません。』とのお返事。何度話しても、担当者が変わっても、とにかくE61には適用不可との事。『高額の料金になってしまい申しわけございませんが、料金の相談はこちらの電話ではしかねます。直接、青森のお店でどうぞ。電話番号をお教えしましょうか。』とも言っていた。

知らなかった俺が悪いのか？でも、言葉が悪いですが、これはもう詐欺でしょ。割引パックを適用できると言っておいて、ジャンジャンパケットをユーザーに使わせて、後にそのまま請求。恐ろしい話です。お金の絡む大事な話をする際は、これからはマイクロフォンをポケットに忍ばせてする事にします。


Nokia E61, an incredible SmartPhone. The body shell seems big but it's easy usability. Internet mail, web browsing, wireless LAN, infrared connection, and Bluetooth are functional. MS Office / Adobe PDF documents also can be handled. It's an excellent phone but also has a few faults: S!Mail (MMS), provided by Softbank, who is a Japanese mobile network carrier, is unavailable. Actually, it can be receive only a mail header, but can not open it, nor reply it to. SMS is available. No camera on the E61. I’m using Gmail with a Gmail application for Symbian.

It says that the Japanese mobile phone and network market is closed market, I really realized when I’m in overseas. For example, SIM-free doesn't majority in Japan, all Japanese mobile network carrier provides only SIM-lock phones with its unique functions, but a few mobile phone brands, i.e. Nokia, provides SIM-free phones. Consumers therefore can choose only selected smart phones. When I'm in Jakarta, Indo, so many kinds smart phones are available because of SIM-free phone market has been established in Indo (and almost all countries except Korea and Japan), I have never ever seen such shop in Japan.

I admit Japanese mobile phones' functions, e.g. TV using a one segment telecommunication, video call, over 5M pixels camera, electronic money card included, etc. etc. are very much advanced, but because of too advanced technology, Japanese mobile network carrier doesn't care about compatibility with other countries' mobile net work technology or standard. (From another viewpoint, I have to say the others' technologies are out-of-date.) Japanese smart phone market is too small compared with normal mobile phone market.

Back to the subject, I'm using E61 with SIM card provided by Softbank. If you are using Nokia E61 with Softbank or NTT Docomo, you need to be careful to use packet telecommunication. Discount services are never applied to packet telecommunication using the E61.

I experienced in Japan that I went to a Softbank shop adjacent to Tokyo railway station, showed NokiaE61 to a shop lady, and asked "I'm using Nokia E61 with Softbank SIM card, can we have any discount service for packet telecommunication?" She answered "I cannot say now but I'm asking Softbank HQ office, I will pass an answer to you later." 3 months had been gone, no answer came up at all. I again went to another Softbank shop, and conveyed same question to a shop lady, and the lady advised me on that a discount service "PC Site Direct" can be applied to me. The "PC Site Direct" service is very simple, once I signed a contract, then packet telecommunication fee is fixed as around JPY8,000 (USD 75) per month, nevertheless using the packet telecommunication. I signed the contract and using packet telecommunication every-single-day. The next month after the subscription, I checked my bill for the mobile phone and was shocked in which a cost of packet telecommunication was over JPY 35,000 (USD 325). Momentarily I made a phone call to Softbank and asked "What's the hell going on?" Softbank replied "The PC Site Direct cannot be applied to a smart phone which can change a network access point". I talked to them the story in the Softbank shop, but Softbank replied only negative response. They said also "We apologized for such high cost, however we cannot enter further discussion regarding the cost now. Would you please discuss at the Softbank shop. I can tell you the Softbank shop contact info if you want."

Is this my fault? No-no, this is a trickery by Softbank. In the shop, they advised me that the discount service could be applied to me, a user, me, surely used packet telecommunication like water. Finally, they made a bill for all packet telecommunication, then simply said “We are very sorry, but you should pay it”. I learned that I should have a micro recorder when I'm handling any personal financial matters with others.
